The New MOT Test
A new set of regulations are coming into force post 20th May. There is one set of emissions tests foe vehicles registered between 1st Aug 1992 and Aug 1995. I have just been told that these test's are going to be more stringent than before? Non cat R8's between Oct 89 and July 31st 92 are thus subject to a less stringent test?

I also heard that it is now expected that the minor issues (what they're now called) are to be done before the next MOT is due

Re: The New MOT Test
Im a tester the emissions are for diesel cars. Basically you have to use the emissions on the vin plate rather than the old emissions limit i.e the old limit for say a turbo Euro 4 car was 1.5m-1..... that was that easy. But now you have to look for the manufacturers plate value on the vin plate (if it has one) and go off that value. Most are 0.50m-1 so if your car was putting out 0.60m-1 it would now fail were as before would have been a easy pass

No "minor" is the new word for the old "advise" so will still be noted on the mot paper work but its down to you what you do about it

Re: The New MOT Test
I am pleased to say that every L-series diesel I have owned has always gone straight through the emissions test with no bother (is it called a'fast pass?'). Hopefully that will continue under the new tests.
A friend of mine owns a ZR 115 diesel and regularly travels to Europe: He managed to get it certified in Germany as Euro 4 compliant so that he has been able to take it into cities such as Berlin. Perhaps if Rover had survived another year or two, the L-series may have got Euro 4 without the need for a particulate filter, just as Honda did with the 2.2 i-CDTi.
Do any of our R8 diesel owners with the Peugeot engine have any problems getting their cars through the MoT emissions test at the moment?

Re: The New MOT Test
It will be interesting to see what happens at the next MoT, which is due in a couple of months time. Up until now, both of my Peugeot TD's have passed whatever the current emissions tests were, with no issues. My first one had over 210,000 miles on when it passed it's last MoT and my current one has over 110,000. There is very little that can alter the emissions on this basic diesel engine other than faulty/worn injectors or a dirty air filter as it is totally mechanical. They don't have a manufacturers "emissions" on the VIN plate, the design is pre all those requirements (engine manufactured between 1982-2001).220 GSi turbo wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 7:00 pmDo any of our R8 diesel owners with the Peugeot engine have any problems getting their cars through the MoT emissions test at the moment?
According to the DVLA's own information, the new regs only apply to a new diesel or a car with a DPF, viz:-
There will be stricter limits for emissions from diesel cars with a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
You’ll test vehicles to the manufacturer’s plate value (when present), or a new lower default limit for newer vehicles.
The Peugeot XUD7TE and XUD9A engines fitted to the R8 were never build with a DPF as far as I can tell (the Haynes manual of these engines doesn't mention replacing of a DPF in the annual maintenance guides) so it looks like the new rules won't apply as far as the DPF is concerned. That said, if you "can see smoke of any colour coming from the exhaust" then it will fail.
