Hiya, its a 1.4 K-series. Thought all the 214's had them, sorry!

Its my old car (gave to it to my mum a while back) needs a new alternator & the vacuum pipes, need to get it running well or she says she'll scrap it. After all the effort I put into a few years back it would break my heart to be honest!

Cheers again for any pointers

Thanks mate, cheers for the effort but I don't think a clear picture exists! Maybe its something to do with the car being a run out model- its an SPI but with the later cat, A/C etc. I'm just going to have to work out where the pipes should go instead of being lazy!

Thanks for the advice

If there are a couple of pipes and a couple of sets of connections, then why not try "trial and error"?

Hiya again!

Think I've got the purge valve & charcoal canister pipes in the correct place...

Image

Just wondering where the pipe from the air filter goes now... (one is already connected to the air temp valve- think thats right)

Image

I figure this pipe is common to all to all the SPi 214's.

Nearly there now!

Cheers again.

I've been looking at the pipes on my SPi 214 and the canister on the right has a red plastic pipe going to the inlet manifold, where it connects with a rubber T piece, with another piece of red plastic pipe coming off the T piece and going to the air filter. I've had problems on my car with the rubber T piece, it developed a split and this causes the engine to stick on a fast idle setting even when hot which I've fixed for the moment with heavy duty silicone sealent to prevent air loss. The other pipe to the left in your picture looks correct. I phoned Rimmers on Saturday to order a replacement coolant pipe which runs from the thermostat to both the inlet manifold and heater connection on the manifold, the guy on the phone said that they have most parts unique to the SPi models (despite their online catalogue giving the opposite impression), which includes the red plastic pipe I guess. The only problem is that Rimmers use the old Rover parts software which does use pictures to show parts so you would have to describe what you want clearly for them to order the right component.

Ahh thats exactly whats happening with my 214 (reason I removed the pipes in the first place!).

When you say "T piece going to the air filter" do you mean the T sits directly in the manifold or in the pipe?

The Haynes manual has a diagram which shows a pipe going from the air filter directly to the inlet manifold so this makes sense... unfortunately doesn't show the canister though.

If the canister connects with the air filter pipe, I'm left wondering where the purge valve pipe goes? Maybe there are 2 T's on the same pipe system?

Thanks mate, I'll get there in the end!

The rubber T piece is located at the back of the manifold facing the bulkhead on a small nipple. The T piece locates on this nipple (it's just pushed on) with the red plastic pipes coming off each side, right one going to the canister, the left to the air filter.
For such an important part of the engine management system it is a bit of a rubbish design but I'm sure Rimmers could supply you with a new pipe.
