I am embarrassed to say it had a dodgy mileometer so it has only 36860, that's awkward but it survived all the same. But when funds become available I will have a full comprehensive restoration

It’s not always as expensive as people think to do a restoration job on these cars.

Get me some decent pics of the worst bits and I can give you a rough idea on prices.

I can do everything other than the air con, not bought that kit yet but have a mobile guy who can sort it.

There’s not that much work there, I bet you are only around the £200 mark in labour plus the parts.

I need to pass my drivers test first before my mum allows anything
If anyone has a list of the surviving 200 r8 prefacelift, this will be one of the few no one knows what happened to it
It basically was hidden away and virtually vanished off the face of the earth

It's worth checking future insurance costs if planning to use it as a first car. They can be surprisingly expensive to insure

Without wishing to preach but double check this too-if you’re planning to be a named driver on your Dad’s policy, but use the car for the majority of the time, this is known as “fronting”, is illegal and something the insurance companies are rather wise to.

I would use it once or twice a week
Though I appreciate your concern

You might find the insurer loads the premium regardless for being a named driver.

Alternatively, it’s worth looking into classic insurance if the annual mileage will be low and there’s no commuting use; classic brokers seem to be pretty sympathetic to most Rovers now!
