Cheers for site Badger - that'll be very useful :D ...as it happens, I actually concluded that it was the thermostat and not the head gasket. The thing is though, I didn't bleed or flush the system when I changed it and as a result the heating blowers were luke warm at best!. Left the motor ticking ...

I paid £325 for mine to be done on my 218 SLD turbo diesel - complete rip-off! Didn't pay it until I'd loudly voiced my opinions and let them know that I would NOT be returning!! :-D

just done the WD40 thing, and it's done the trick! :) Spoken to a mechanic as well and he reckons new belt should only be about a fiver, so when the squeak comes back I'll look into a new belt me thinks :closedeyes

well, I've topped up the PAS fluid - it was on the low line mark! It feels a bit better in general but still squeals when turning the wheel whilst still, or moving slowly! Got a week off so gonna WD40 the belt as recommended: see if that helps any?! :) :S :tumbleweed
