The small black connector should be connected to 12v battery. The OE Microcheck and Testbook connectors have to be connected to 12V. Maybe your XW has the IR Fob? I'm afraid the rover isn't OBD compliant so you'll need proper test equipment to interrogate the ECU (testbook). Well.. I found this on internet.. I dont know whats the function of the small black connector or where should it be connected but I think it is not very important. http://www.obdcable.hk...

By the way, how many connectors does your rover have?? I think mine just have one... but i found on internet this picture where it has two.. and it said... "The green is the diagnosis socket and the white is the diagnostic connector for the MEMS engine management unit" :S I thought diangos...
